THE TUBA PLAYER.

"Blow the bloomin' thing" - Patrick Harrild, LSO ret.
At fifteen, Callum was your typical kid; interested in video games, and little time for homework! Given the chance to learn an instrument, Callum wanted to play the trumpet. Unfortunately, fate led him to the tuba as the school wind band needed a tuba player (sound familiar?).
It wasn't all bad as Callum found he actually quite liked the tuba, and found swathes of excitement in the ever increasing tuba repertoire - Fnugg Blue by Oystein Baadsvik being one of them.
From Trinity College of Music, to the Royal Military School of Music. From the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, and on to the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen; Callum has had a solid grounding in music. His career has seen him perform with professional orchestras, military bands, big bands, championship brass bands, wind bands, and lederhosen clothed Oompah Bands all over the world. He's performed alongside artists such as Luke Evans, Jeff Goldblum, Bryn Terfel, Leona Lewis, James Blunt, Tom Jones, McFly, Sheridan Smith, Colin Thackeray, and more recently Callum was seen performing on the red carpet at The Pride of Britain Awards, as well as performing live on the BBC's Andrew Marr show. He's performed with international virtuosos including Mike Lovatt, Philip Cobb, Les Neish, Oystein Baadsvik, Simone Rebello, David Childs, Sarah Williamson, and Linda Merrick to name a few. It's never been a dull day since picking up that tuba!
In 2015 Callum joined the British Army to became a full time tubist in Her Majesty's Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards, and has since performed at all manner of state ceremonial events from Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, Trooping the Colour, performing on Live TV, to state visits including the former president of the United States.
Whilst in the army, Callum was regularly selected for the most prestigious engagements including performing on stage at the Royal Albert Hall for the Royal British Legion's annual Festival of Remembrance, The BBC's Victory over Japan 75th anniversary commemorations, and recording for the BBC's Victory in Europe 75th Anniversary.
In 2021, Callum decided to give up his bear skin and successfully auditioned for The Central Band of the Royal Air Force where he now takes up the post of Tuba player. Since changing uniform, Callum has continued to perform at high profile engagements including performing at Downing Street for the Prime Minister, performing at Parliament, and this year he will be performing at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Recently Callum was immeasurably proud, and deeply honoured to participate in the Coronation of King Charles III, and the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, playing in the combined band of the Royal Air Force. It's estimated that 4 billion people across the world watched this historic event, and nearly 1.5 million lined The Mall and surrounding areas.
